14th Street Days 1-3: Pandas aren’t the Only Ones that Love Bamboo

Bamboo flooring is installed and shimmed nice and tight and quarter round installed along baseboards. If you’ve ever installed new flooring you may notice that you had to install quarter round along the baseboards because it’s next to impossible to install the flooring with exactly precise cuts so that it looks clean and tidy. What is quarter round you ask? Imagine a round dowel 1 inch in diameter (a dowel is wooden rod like what you hang your clothes on in your closet) and then that 1” rod is sliced into quarters so it kinda looks like a slice of pie but it’s like the thickest slice of pie ever!

Quarter round

It looks like that photo. It’s used to hide the imperfect cuts we make as humans. If robots installed flooring they probably wouldn’t need quarter round because their laser beam eyes could make perfect and precise cuts every time. Oh, and speaking of robots… I get bored sometimes and need someone to talk to so I built a robot friend. He told me his name is Tim-Tam.

Tim-Tam is my friend

Tim-Tam was mostly built from an old ceiling fan and he really loves to talk about some sport called Netball. I don’t know if it’s real, I’ve discovered that after a few beers he seems to make stuff up and tells me these crazy stories. But that’s just part of what makes him who he is. Ol’ Tim-Tam, you gotta love his quirky ways.

So with flooring complete and the place practically empty we decided now was the time to have the interior repainted. I was going to paint it myself, but it would never be as easy to paint as it is currently. Since I’m going to LA for the weekend I called in a painter who gave us a screaming deal. He’s gonna paint this weekend while I’m away. We’re going for clean white walls and trim and will let the decor be the highlight. He’s also going to paint our laundry room that we share with our other two tenants, so bonus! Looking forward to Tab and the dogs coming back with me on Sunday after we do some make-ready work at the LA guesthouse and get it back on Airbnb. See you all after the weekend!
