Day 11: Whole House Rewire Begins

I actually slept quite awfully in the hotel bed last night, I’d been having great restful sleeep on my air mattress, which surprisingly seemed to eliminate the lower back and neck/shoulder pain I had been having in LA right before I came out to AZ to do the duplex rehab.  I think the mattress in LA must be the culprit. But the best part of staying in the hotel, the hot tub!!

Ahhh my achey breaky bones…

Scott had the day off yesterday and returned today with a vengeance. He spent a good portion of the day crawling around in the tiny attic space running electrical wires from one side to the other while I got to destroy some walls as we fished new electrical lines everywhere in the house to replace all of the old knob and tube wiring and bring this place into 2018, soon-to-be 2019. Now this house will be able to handle all of the electronics every modern house is using: laptops, ipads, iPhones, some Androids…maybe, Roku, OLED TVs, electric toothbrushes, Dyson cordless vacuums, sous-vide cookers, smart watches, VHS players, Atari 2600s, Intellivision, fake hoverboards, vape things, Xboxes, coffee makers for the best part of waking up…Folgers in your cup, and all the other electo-gadgets we just can’t live without.

We got 75% of Unit B rewired, which was a monumental feat considering a good amount of time was spent at Home Depot and Lowe’s buying Saltillo tiles, Subway tiles, grout, extractor fans, junction boxes, wall outlets, etc…  Thankfully Tab was here to sort out a banking mistake by local, inept bank teller, prevent any ill-will with a sub-contractor, help run errands and contact some painters and drywall people while I was busy itching from the fiberglass insulation.

The tile guys put in a half day today getting the lay of the land and figuring out how to deal with our old-school lath and plaster walls and installing modern Hardie Backer on the walls in the bathroom where the tile surround will go and doing some general prep. They’re planning to start at 6am on Wednesday. No way I can possibly get up at that time, so I just programmed access for them using the Nest app with our new door locks, and fingers crossed, they will be able to access the house without me being there.

The tile guy says he plans to get the flooring tiles installed throughout both sides tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing that!!

Time to get some shut-eye…
